Fridgidaire washer - spring is very tight to install

Hi,

I have a fridgidaire washer model fafw3801lw0. I had to replace the bellow boot and the real challenge is reinstalling the spring onto the bellow. I

I insert the wedgers to hold the spring but they keep popping out along with the spring. My wife also tried helping but it’s not budging.

Anyone have experience they’d like to share?
