Frigidaire Dishwasher Electrical Burning Smell While Running...Not From Coil

Hi folks,

I’ve been doing a ton of searching/researching over the last few days trying to get to the root of the problem with my dishwasher. It’s a 4 year old Frigidaire FDB1050REC2…fairly basic model with an exposed heating coil. Recently I’ve noticed a terrible electrical/plastic type burning smell during operation. I’ve checked the coil and it’s completely free of debris and not emitting any smoke. The smell seems to be coming from either the crevace between my countertop and dishwasher, or from the little steam vent on the front left side. However, I don’t seem to notice it from the inside of the washer when I open it, or from the bottom. I took off the spray arms as well as the filter/filter cover and didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. It still runs/washes, but the smell gets overwhelming after about 10 minutes…I don’t smell or notice it during the first 10. Also, once I notice the smell it seems to wax and wane—I’ve sat by the front of it for about 10 minutes and the smell would come and go as the cycles switched. I know that it cycles from spraying the bottom arm to the top arm and vice versa, as well as pumping out inital pre-wash cleaning water. I’m not very mechanically inclined so outside of a visual inspection I couldn’t notice anything wrong, nor could I probably repair it if I had. I’m hoping there may be a simple fix, but by the type of smell, dismal quality of fridigaire products, and cost of parts/labor to diagnose I don’t see it as worth it unless I find something obvious. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Thank You

Evan

Update…Decided that due to the extreme smell and the likely chance that it’s terminal I decided to simply buy a new one. For anyone looking for a new dishwasher for a great deal…there’s a seller on ******** "markdown madness" located in WNY that sells all kinds of high-end appliances at huge savings. Some have very minor "scratches/dents" and some are mint in factory packaging (all have full warranty). I purchased a brand new Bosch SHE3AR56UC which is around a $500+ DW for $213 with free local pickup. It has a couple of miniscule dents that aren’t noticable since it’s black. Also, Sears has a Kenmore Top Control full Stainless DW for $341, and then there’s a $35 and $50 coupon to get it down to $256! (MSRP is $700)

Lots of great info on this site, very happy I stumbled upon it.
