Bought new in 2003.
I have a side by side that is not cooling on either side.
I cleaned the coils and fan (which is running). I do hear a click every few minutes coming from the compressor area but I do not hear any noise from the compressor.
The coolant tank is warm to the touch but the coils are room temp.
Where to start??
Here’s an update. I removed the start kit and checked for continuity at the (3) compressor leads. Readings were 5-9 ohms. No OLs. Checked compressor leads against a grounded copper pipe as well…no OLs either.
Checked capacitor that is plugged into the start kit…no continuity.
The compressor is cycling every 2-3 minutes for about 13 seconds.
Temperature is set on 5 for both frig and freezer.
The start device has an upper and two lower output compressor pins, check ohms between the bottom two, if open, it’s bad.

Checked the two pins from the Start device last night and from my old feeble memory got a reading of 220±. I seem to remember thinking that was a high number but can’t be sure that was it exactly. I didn’t get any reading the upper pin to either of the lower pins.
If I replace the Start device, do the wires push back out from the old unit to be inserted into the new one? or does the new part come with wires and you just splice them together.
Problem solved. Replaced the Start device and the compressor came to life. The replacement was a little smaller than the original but works perfectly.
The retrofit included cutting the original wires off the old Start device and splicing together with the new leads that come with the replacement. The end that plugs into the Start device is a clip type holder. Just be sure to splice the correct wires together.
To prevent future failure, install a 1000 joule surge protector in the wall outlet.
