Gas dryer running but no heat

My dryer runs but there is no heat. The timer cycles except on the Automatic setting. There was no glow at the gas ignitor so I replaced it. Still no glow. Any ideas ??? A sensor maybe? Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi missieann33,

In order to provide the most accurate advise I need the complete model number of the dryer.

Post it as a new thread, please.

Gene.

I’ve had to ‘defrost’ my frost-free freezer a few times now; the drain hole is clear - but the ice returns each time. What can I do?

Could this be caused by a bad seal on the Refridgerator door? The lower left corner of the door gasket doesn’t even touch the metal; as a result, I can bend down and look right into the refridgerator.

My dryer stopped heating again. I have changed the thermal fuse again and the cycling thermostat. It will cycle once and then does not heat again. The ignitor glows but it does not kick in the gas to heat.

Is this the heat coil?

Is this the heat coil?..

Yes, most likely the problem is a bad gas valve coils. Also make sure there is no obstructions in the vent lines and the blower housing is clean.

 • The part number for the coil kit is AP2150379

Thanks again Gene! I replaced the coils and the dryer runs and cycles fine now.

You are welcome. Hopefully the problem is solved.

gene, similarly, my gas dryer will start hot, then some time during its cycle go cold, the clothes will not be dry…i am guessing the cdryer is hot only for 5- 10 mins then will not get hot again for over an hour after shut off

having problems getting the oven door back in…

i have positioned the levers at 90 degrees but just can’t seem to get it to "click" in…would appreciate any assistance to finish the task.
thx a bunch…

HI GENE,
I HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY DRYER.
My dryer runs but there is no heat. The timer cycles except on the Automatic setting! I FOLLOW YOUR POST HERE BY REPLACING THE THERMAL FUSE AND CYCLING THERMOSTAT from your company(btw fastest service ever  . MY AUTOMATIC SETTING WORK NOW BUT IT SEEM LIKE it working intermittently. FIRST LOAD automatic setting didn’t turn, SECOND LOAD FINE. I look through the peep hole there was a glow at my gas ignitor and fire but after a couple of minute it turn off by it self. Obviously my dryer is working much better than before and finally it heat up but not all the time  please help!

Make sure the dryer vent line is clean all the way through the vent outlet.

If it would not help, replace the gas valve coils.

Gene.

 problem solved with the Gas coil thank you so much Gene for your help.
Now my dryer is working like new again, total cost for repair include shipping is less than $55 awesome awesome awesome

You are welcome. I’m glad you were able to fix it.

I have a similar situation. The dryer starts and the heat starts, then the heat goes out. It eventually starts back up again but it is taking a very long time to dry clothes. My wife noticed that the time default time is displaying 31 minutes now, before it was 60 something if that helps.
I have replaced:
Thermal Fuse
Thermistor
Gas Coils
Hi Limit Thermostat
This all started after I opened up the dryer to replace a squeaky Idler Pulley.

Any ideas of what to do next?
Maytag Gas Dryer

Thanks for the reply.
I have a Maytag Gas Dryer, model # MDG5500AWW.
I took off the flexible line and cleaned it out (it is only about 8 inches long) and cleaned out the vent (it goes up to the roof) as best I could.
I’m not sure what you mean by checking the blower, here is what I have done. I ran the dryer without being hooked up to the vent and heat comes out.

Update:
I ran a full cycle without being hooked up to the vent and had the same issue (clothes not drying).
I found a Sensor Bar Assembly that failed the continuity check so I am currently waiting for that part. Could that be causing the problem? One of the past posts mentioned that the High Limit Thermostat could be bad even though it passed continuity. Should I replace it ?
Looking for some help, thanks.

The first thing you may want to do is make sure the blower wheel (#4 on the diagram) is not sliding along the motor shaft. If it does, replace it.

If there is nothing wrong, the new high limit thermostat may solve the problem.

If you need the correct part numbers, post the serial number of the dryer.

Gene.

The blower wheel is in good shape.
I rechecked the continuity on all of the parts and noticed that the Thermistor gave me resistance of 8ohm (if I am reading it correctly). Should this part be 0 like the rest?
My model number is MDG5500aWW with a serial number of 56756985AX. If the Thermistor is ok I will order a new high limit thermostat.

Thanks

The high limit thermostat AP4036956

The normal thermistor resistance should be about 10K Ohms at 70 degrees.

Gene.

Thanks Gene.
I ordered the part and will let you know how it goes.
This all started when I replaced a squeaky Bearing Idler Assembly . Can you think of anything that might have caused this problem. Could I have re-installed something wrong when putting it back together? Can the electric motor direction be reversed? I am grasping at anything at this point and am willing to look at any possibility. If I were to star this all over from the beginning, what would you have me check/replace?
I see the flame come on and stay lit for about 2 minutes. It goes off for about 2 minutes and then it lights back up for about 30 seconds.
