Gas dryer won't heat up

I have a Kenmore dryer that was made in 1997. I use LP gas. When I push the button to start the dryer it starts and rotates the clothes but does not heat up. I replaced the electric ignitor(part #279311),bought from a Sears parts store, but got the same result-no heat. I spoke to the person at the parts store and was told if the ignitor is working it should have a red glow when turned on. There was no red glow after I installed the new ignitor. It was then suggested that a coil kit(part # 279834) might be needed. I was told there were actually two coils.
What I am wondering is if the ignitor doesn’t heat up and glow red could a faulty coil prevent the ignitor from heating up?
Another person suggested testing the new ignitor that I installed with an ohm meter to see if it was good to begin with.
Any suggestions?
