The lower right double burner was being used. When shut off the cook top made a "poof" sound. (this is a black glass cook top - burners are not exposed). I could not believe it so I put back on for 5 - 7 seconds and shut off again. It made a louder "poof" sound and will not come on again. I checked the main circuit breake in the main paanel and it is tripped. Casn not rest the Circuit breake.
Suggestions on part needed to be replaced???
You have a direct hot to ground or hot to neutral short somewhere in the unit.
is it possible - in all likelyhood this is in the swirtch under the knob??? Seeing as how this appears as to what caused the problem???
Think changing out the switch would do the fix??? or would you recommend calling in a repair company???
Im sure I can change oft the switrch if this would fix the problem…
The short has to be located in order to know what the fix will be. If you don’t feel up to the job, call a repair professional. It’s much better to be safe than to save a few dollars and not know.
Solved the problem… seems like the switch (GE part no. WB24T10119), infinite control burned up… (must have gotten some water into it - pot over flowed!!) When I open the case up the switch smelt fried and looked sort of black.
In any case a local store (Appliance parts depot) had the switch on hand. Switched out the switch and all is well. PS. Make sure you cut off the Circuit Breaker to the Appliance!!!
Well done! Good to see a problem solved and a whole bunch of money saved by keen observation.
