Hi, I have a GE Side by side with the freezer at 32-42F, Fridge at 45-55F. I replaced the defrost timer and defrost thermostat. Plugged it back in and freezer went to about 15F. Next day it was back to warm temps. Verified the evaporator was frosting evenly and that the heater works. Over the past few days I have noticed that every time I unplug it and plug it back in the freezer goes back to 15F for many hours. I ordered a cool control but it hasn’t come in yet. Could this be a capacitor problem? I hadn’t even considered that until now. Thanks for in advance for any replies.
Hi, Everything is running when the freezer is warm. The compressor is hot, both fans are running. If I unplug the fridge it makes a very faint pop noise, then I plug it right back in and it starts cooling. The evap coils are not frozen when this happens, they are just barely cold. It has been cooling for a full day now, freezer is at 15F. Soon, the freezer will warm up again and I’ll have to unplug it and start over again. I should have a new cool control today or tomorrow. I think I’ll replace the run capacitor today, just to eliminate it as a problem. I would have junked it by now except that I know the refrigeration system seems to be okay and it is probably a control issue.
