GE Freezer not freezing

Hey guys, my freezer has quit freezing. It blows cool air but not cold enough. The fridge seems to be working fine but it is hard to tell just how cold it is. It also started making a clicking sound (about one click every thirty seconds or so… sound like a car motor cooling kinda) the other night. The next day is when I noticed it wasn’t freezing. I read something here about turning the defrost control timer and it should turn on and it did come on but it is still clicking and still not freezing. Could this be a relay? For some reason when I search my model number here I get no returns now. Thanks in advance for your help.

Here are your parts

Yes it could be a relay (PTC) ( Item 735 in Section 3).
If the compressor is very hot make sure that the condenser fan is running.

Here are a couple of good sites with info on how to check a compressor and it’s starting device.

Checking the compressor coils for continuity does not eliminate the compressor as the cause but if you find either the start or the run windings are open it does conclusively determine that the compressor is bad.

Thanks denman your quick reply helped a lot. It ended up being the relay/overload/PTC. It took me maybe ten minutes to replace. Although I am somewhat handy I am by no means a fridge repair man. And for anyone else having a similar problem the fridge and freezer were both not working. The fan was blowing the cool air from the food inside making it seem like it was cooling some.

You are welcome

And thanks for getting back to us. Now when others search for a similar problem they will see what actually worked instead of just suggestions about what could be the cause.
