I have GE side by side fridge. Three weeks ago we noticed that the fridge portion was not cooling. No air was getting through the vents. The freezer was working properly, though. I took off the back cover and noticed the coils were completely frosted over. I defrosted the fridge for 24 hours, clean the compressor, and plugged it in. It worked for three weeks and now today the fridge section warmed up again. I took off the back cover and again the coils are frosted over. I’m thinking it’s the defrost heater but unsure. I don’t have a multimeter at the moment and would prefer just to replace the heater if that’s the case. What other parts would affect this as well?
any input on this issue? could really use some advice. Would it be best to just replace the heater and temperature sensor?
Hi.
I’d highly recommend you to invest $25 into a multimeter than spend money on unnecessary parts.

Inspect the defrost heater, if black inside with a gap, it’s blown. Conformation entails carefully removing the coil from the glass. Broken coil confirms it.
