My GE microwave/convection oven model# JVM1790SK 01 started to make a humming noise about 2-4 min after I cooked a t.v. dinner.
I heard a humming noise while eating my t.v.dinner than started to smell like something electrical was burning I traced it to the microwave I proceeded to open the door & the humming stoped but rite when I closed the door it started humming again I opened and closed the door about 3-5 more times to make sure it only did it when the door was closed also the top of the inside of the microwave was burning hot it actually started to melt the sticker which had the model number on it. So I unpluged the microwave and left the door open so it can cool down I wait about 2hrs than pluged the microwave back in reset the time than closed the door and it started to make the humming noise again so I unplugged it and left it unplug. Everything else works fine all the buttons work,Lights I did not try to cook something after this started happening I didnt want anything else to go wrong…
Does anyone know why this humming noise only occurs when the door is closed?
I bought this microwave about 4 or 5 years ago it cost a lil over $700 would it be even worth fixing? or should I just get a new one?
