I was given a GE side by side fridge model GSCS3PGXCFSS with LED temp display that was not not cooling on the fresh food side. I found and replaced a bad defrost coil. I also noticed that the damper door never opens so I have now replaced that whole expensive assembly as well. The fridge can cool itself down, and if I leave the damper assy. off and let the freezer just blow into the fresh food side both get very cold. I also replaced the 2 thermistors in the fresh food side just because they are cheap and I had some. I have a temperature gun and the temp display is not usually accurate and does not seem to update the temps displayed very often. I now figure the main board is probably bad. There are two big resistors with burn marks around them on the main board. I have another broken GE fridge ESS25XGMCWW that does NOT have the fancy LED temp display. According to my research here it takes the same control board (WR55X10942P) as the one I am working on. I swapped in that board last night and the fridge started cooling, fan running etc but the temp display just blinks "00 00" and the controls don’t work. I ASSUME that this is because the board is not "programmed" for a smart display.
So, my main question is HOW do I get info on programming the main board to work with the fridge?
I also need to find the diagnostic procedure instructions for this fridge so I can troubleshoot it.
I have read that you have to leave the fridge plugged in for 24 hours and the main board programs itself, but I just unplugged it after seeing the zeros for fear of breaking something.
Any help appreciated, thanks.
