ge not cold

This fridge went into defrost and did not come out, the mullion bar ( across the two freezer drawers) got very warm and fans ran but did not hear compressor. i thought bad evap thermistor or defrost thermostat so I replaced them. No joy. on reading everyone and repair manual said if not those two then control board, so under protest I replaced control board. Compressor kicks on for a few seconds and seems to just lose power. I have 119 vac and around 5 vdc ( it bounces 4.9 to 5.45) to inverter so I assume that is power signal. On physical inspection inverter shows some temperature discoloration but no burn. I do not want to just replace the inverter to find this 7 year old compressor is bad. Any advice would help.thank you for your time James for Model Number GE PGCS1PJXASSVM

so I am sitting next to this fridge for an hour or more and noticed, a relay clicking once every 10 minutes and the compressor doing it’s thing a minute or three later. thanks again for any help

If the compressor vibrates, then shuts down on the inverter overload, you probably have a bad compressor, amprobe would confirm.

ok the compressor sounds like it is powering up then goes silent, this is a variable speed compressor and I am not sure about what my amp reading should be, also should I use a clamp on inductive ammeter on each wire or in series with jumpers? also three wires go to the compressor none marked is variable speed compressor wired different from standard compressor?

You must find the power wires to the inverter per. the schematic. Clamp an amprobe on the hot wire, usually black, single phase current would normally be around 1.3 to 1.6 amp. If it checks out, you probably have a bad inverter, unless the power goes away for some reason from the control.
