After a 3 hour self-cleaning, my GE oven has door locked. I called APP and tried a few tricks including the followings:
- power off (from the circuit breaker) for 15 minutes
- Complete rerun the self clearn
- Self clearning started and then stopped after 20 seconds or 15 minutes
- Pushing and holding the clear buttone for 30 seconds
- Pushing the clock and off button together.
Unfortunately nothing worked. I still have locked appeas and hear some low buzzing noise when I gentle pull the oven door (still locked). My door does not have a latch.
I read the following posting from Jeffrey and he resolved this problem by accssing the locking mechanism. I have been searching for more information on how to access to the locking mechanism. He said he followed GE manual but my users manual did not have such information.
I hope someone can help me on this. Thanks in advance.
This is from one of the thread: "We had this problem recently. The oven door lock was jammed closed and could not be reset. We followed the GE manual on how to take access the locking mechanism (UNPLUG STOVE, unscrew stove top, lift up to access door motor). We then pulled out the mechanism and manually wound the motor drive so that the door lock mechanism was unlocked. Put all back together again. Presto. Oven worked perfectly!"
I did not get any replies so my wife and I decided to fix it ourselves. We have never worked on this problem before and very novices on this kind of issue.
First we took off the back panels to see if there is anything there. We found the main control board and switches but nothing related to this issue.
We decided to dive into the front side. Using a long nose plier, I removed two small screws holing the glasstop to the frame. Once the glasstop was lifted up, I was able to see the locking motor and latch in the middle (near the top of the door). I managed to move the latch a bit and then the oven door could be open. However, the motor and latch was still in "locked" location. I disconnected all the cables and then powered the oven on without having the motor/latch assembly connected to the oven. This time, I had the "locked" display blinking instead of stayed on. I unplugged the power cable, reconnected the latch/motor assembly, and then plugged the power again. I heard the motor moving and then the latch moved to "unlock" position and stayed there. I reassmbled the covers. I spent last 9 hours on this issue and , Thanks God, my wife and I could resolve this problem. Honestly, I am afraid of running another self-clean in the near future and am still not sure what caused this problem. When it happended again, I will try this again and try to pinpoint the source of problem. I think we did enough for today! We hope this help anyone with similar problem.
