GE Profile Cooktop Igniter wire burned

Some time ago, after cleaning the cooktop, one of the burners stopped lighting automatically. The other 3 burners are fine. On this burner there was no click/spark, and after taking the burner/tray off to find the full model number, I noticed that the wire to the burner seemed burnt, and the connector didn’t look too healthy either. I checked the other burner wires and they looked good. So, can I cut this wire and splice a new piece (not electrically inclined :frowning: so I place all faith in the circuit breaker) or do I need an entire piece of wire going from I-don’t-know-where to the igniter? Also, what type of wire? Thank you.
