My GE GTS22KBMARWW runs continuously and is freezing (20 deg.) in the refrigerator section. I’ve tried various control settings, including turning both controls all the way down to 2. The only time it stops running is with one of them set to 0.
The evaporator fan in the freezer is always on as well, and at first I thought this in itself was causing the problem because it does force cold air down into the refrigerator. I’ve started monitoring the freezer temperature as well, though, and it’s going down to 10 below zero.
I know there are multiple temporature sensors, but I imagined they would let the unit get too warm if they failed. Not sure what else it could be.
A bad sensor could shut the cooling off but also may cause it to cool too much.
The freezer is too cold it should be 0 to 5 degrees F.
My guess would be either a sensor or the control board.
Thanks for the link to the service manual – I had not been able to find one. Even better, I did find the manual for the GTS top-freezer models (near the GE side-by-side manual).
I’m also wondering whether the knob controls in the front could be part of this – I found out a few days ago that the freezer knob had been jammed upward and knocked out of alignment. I put it back in place but that didn’t help. There’s a little circuit board behind it but it’s hard to imagine the control could get damaged in this way or cause this behavior.
