Went shopping Saturday (10/25/2008) and loaded up the fridge.
Ever since, the fridge has not been cooling properly and some items in the freezer appear to be a little warmer.
Weird thing is the ice is still very cold.
Last night, I checked the two areas (could be more or less, I don’t know) I thought cool air would flow from and did everything I could to unblock those areas.
The temperature is usually 38 - 40 degrees but the fridge is now a constant 58.
I turned up the dials and that doesn’t appear to help.
When I removed the ice bucket last night and checked up there, the ice is still frozen like ice and filled to capacity and cool air still appears to be flowing somehow in order to keep the ice frozen.
I do still hear a noise like a fan is blowing or something.
A round little ice still accumulates and builds up on the left side of the bottom of the cheese/meat drawer. That usually happens if I have the vent open too much.
It seems that no cool air is circulating in the fridge, but again, stuff on the door of the freezer has softened but the items deep in the freezer appear to be okay for now.
Please help and remember I am so a lay person with this.
But would that cause water to come from the fridge?
I forgot to mention that too.
Last night and this morning, water appears to be coming from under the fridge as if it’s defrosting or something. Not a lot of water but water nonetheless.
Can packing the freezer too tight somehow cause that?
It appears to be coming from underneath the fridge.
This just started happening last night.
I’m trying to see if there’s any correlation with when I shopped and overpacked or is all of this just a coincidence and something was going bad anyway.
I came home and the temperature was 50 degrees, 8 degrees cooler than it was most of yesterday and this morning.
There wasn’t visible water on the floor (ceramic) but you could tell that more water had dripped/overflowed/leaked since I wiped it up this morning. The grout lines were a little dark in front of the fridge.
Last night I had rearranged some items in the freezer in hopes that things would have been improved this morning but no results until I came home. Let’s not forget I have turned up the thermostat to 9, the highest number on the dials.
You may also want to remove the items in the freezer near the bottom and look for frost or ice buildup there. If there’s any present you may be having a defrost problem.
If it’s coming from the inside of the freezer door it is probably from the water dispenser. As for your temp problem I think your control board on the back of your unit is malfunctioning. Part # WR55X10552 GE has had issues with these boards for a while and this is the latest version of the board. If in doubt I would call a local certified tech and have them check everything out.
came home and freezer temp is 30 degrees and fridge is still 50 degrees both really too warm.
water still leaking from within the door of the freezer.
Not that it would matter but I replaced the filter because I had read that filter blockage in some types of water filtration fridges can cause the fridge to warm up.
Also, I failed to mention that the water dispenser will sometimes not operate if the fridge is too cold/freezes up or if it gets too cold outside. Never freezes up in the summer but does in the winter. It had frozen up maybe sometime in September for about 2 days and then I had lowered the numbers from 7 to 6 and then it started working again. Still, no leaking or warming up of freezer/fridge.
Anyway, after changing the filter, I ran the dispenser for about 2 gallons of water and now it operates as it should as soon as you press on the lever for water.
Why would the rear main board cause the warming problem?
Water is leaking from within the freezer door onto the floor.
I am also starting to see frost in the back of the freezer
Both Fridge and Freezer have been warmer than they should be, 50 degrees and 30 degrees respectively.
over past couple of years, the water dispenser will intermittenly work or not work during cold weather, won’t dispense water, we feel because maybe it froze up. Happened when we got the first very cold week in September but I turned down the fridge and then it just started dispensing again. Didn’t start acting up until after I went shopping this past Saturday 10/25/2008.
Is it the timer, etc?
I haven’t taken a look behind the inside of the freezer yet but plan to do that tomorrow evening after work.

Yes, it is at the bottom of the evaperator, held in by 2 screws. Once you have the back panel off you will see it at the bottom. Just for clarification. once all your freezer shelves are removed, you will see the back panel, take that off (held on by a couple screws) and your ready to go.
I did what you said and could not believe there was so much ice build up. Took about 30 - 45 minutes for the blow dryer to melt it all.
Is is normal to hear a light hissing sound at the top of the refrigerator on the left side? There’s an area that somehow looks like it leads to the freezer. I only hear it when it sounds like the fan or whatever that sound is, is on in the freezer.
How exactly will melting the ice make the freezer freeze better and the fridge get cold again?
I’m trying to gauge what to expect now. Will the freezer freeze like normal and the fridge get cold like before around 40 for the fridge and 5degrees for the freezer?
Yesterday I replaced the "replacement heater for heater harness defrost assembly" part number WR51X10101.
The original part was a single and this part is a dual.
I replaced the single with the dual and moved the blue wire on the left over to the right side and plugged in the pink and blue wired in the right side.
What now?
What should I be looking for?
How soon should my fridge get back to normal…i.e., how soon should I see the 40 degree temperature like I used to?
Should the frost on the evaporator coils behind the freezer panel begin frosting up immediately after everything is plugged in?
I tried touching the part to see if it would get warm and wasn’t sure of what was going on.
What’s the lilkelihood of getting a genuine renewal part that is broken?
I can tell you this, the old glass cylindrical heater part was sooooo black you couldn’t even see through it. A stark difference of what is was supposed to look like.
Just trying to see if maybe there was anything else wrong like the defrost timer.
How do I check that (while I’m at it) to make sure that’s not bad too?
And the freezer is still building up frost on the evaporator coils.
I don’t know why but the moment I put that so called new defrost heater on I felt it wasn’t working because nothing happened…no warming nothing.
When I defrost the rear of the freezer with the blow dryer, replace everything, the cold air comes through the damper just fine without any problems. Then after about 3-4 days, the frost begins to build up on the rear panel and the buildup slowly decreases the amount of cold air flowing up through the damper.
If I purchased a voltage reader (about $12.00) what exactly would I be looking for? How would I check the defrost heater itself if there are no actual wires other than the ones that you plug into it.
I have the dual heater and I’m wondering if it’s not working due to having to plug the wires into the right side…I know that shouldn’t make a difference if that’s what the instructions tell you to do …
Now, I’m starting to see water build up at the bottom of the fridge and this has not been happening since I’ve been making all the parts changes.
What else could I possibly check for?
Does this fridge/freezer have a timer?
I accidentally dropped two screws into the drain under the defrost heater (this was after the problems started) and I’m wondering if that is playing a roll in anything? I pulled out the dairy section at the bottom of the fridge and peeked in and the water reserviore (the white/somewhat clear S shaped plastic water holder) hanging on the rear was dripping as if it had a leak. I’m thinking this may be somehow connected to so many defrosts causing too much water to flow into the reserviore pan.
Do you have directions for checking the water pan under the fridge…how do I reach it and check to see if the screws or dust or anyting for that matter is clogging it? Could that possibly be causing any problems.
