I’m attempting to install a new tub seal. I’ve got the front panel, top w/door, the agitator, tub cover assembly, hub nut and hub washer removed but I can’t get the washtub to budge on the drive spindle to remove it and get at the seal. Is there something else I need to remove? From the parts diagram it appears the tub just slides over the shaft. Any help would be appreciated.
I can’t find your model #, double check it for me?
But if it’s a modern GE unitized set the tub seal comes out the bottom I believe, on the trans shaft.
You still need the tub free from the shaft though so no wasted time.
If it is one of these modern ones that leak onto trans and make horrible noises we’ve been replacing whole tub assemblies, trans and all. I think the trans# in our system subbed to it automatically or there was a bulletin to do so.
Something like this:

That may not be yours though not knowing model #.

GE’s site for the model I have. It looks real similar to the site you posted. Thanks for the help. I’ll get a shoehorn and move it into the open so I can get the tub out.
Yep that’s new design. If you’ve caught the leak before any significant damage to trans has occurred you might get away with just the seal. Usually when I see them its just the beginning. Its worth calling GE parts to see if they’ve released a whole tub asm kit as this issue seemed to get far too common.
Warning, there is nothing fun about this task, the suspension rods can be a pain, the big tub nut is usually an issue too.
Good luck
