I turned the oven on to bake something, just 350 degrees. Next thing I see is flames on the left side, element is red-hot on that side. The other areas of the element had no color at all. Turned the oven off and looked at it after it had cooled down. As soon as I touched the element, a piece broke off.
No, it wasn’t grease or food stuck to it. I had cleaned the oven 2 weeks before and not used it since.
Two questions: Can I take the element out and replace it? It has two screws, I do not know what is behind that.
Hurricane Irene hit us pretty hard here. Before the power finally went out totally, power went off and on several times. Could a power surge have messed up this element? I don’t know if the the broiler element works and am not going to turn the oven on to test it.
Any answers would be welcomed and appreciated.
