I have a 1999 GE Model# TXF20JRBGWW Side0by-side that is giving me problems. Noticed a few days ago that back wall of freezer was frosted over and freezer and food side were not cool enough (spoiled milk, soft ice cream). Evap and condensor fan motors do run but I am not sure if the compressor is acutally operating. In the past I remember hearing the fridge click and then you could really hear the fridge running. This may just have be my imagination and I was hearing the firdge click from cooling mode to defrost mode.
Did some research and found that I have the basic system without a motherboard (adaptive defrost control or whatever they call it) and I probably had a defrost system problem. Bought a new defrost timer and installed last night, clicked it over to defrost mode and heater never came on. I do have a mulitmeter but was unfor sure where to test at. By logic my guess is that the defrost tstat is bad or the heater is burned out. I am going to pick one of those up today.
If that is not it I am ready to give up and buy a new fridge ( and thats what the wife wants) but I hate to throw a fridge out that is not that old and needs only a small part.
If after I install the heater/tstat and the defrost timer and it doesn’t work. What do I do next? Does the compressor or evap fan system operate in different stages (low too high)? Could there be a bad overload relay? I think it is located down near the compressor. I couldn’t find where anyone else has talked about this model # on the web. I did find a parts site that listed the diagrams.
