GE top loader nut stuck solid

Hi,

Last night I was trying to help out a friend with a GE washer that started leaking out the bottom. It’s also very loud during the spin cycle.

I watched the videos and it looked like it was a fairly easy repair. Everything was going fine until I got to the tub nut. It’s rusted solidly in place.

I had purchased the tool remove the nut (and yes I was turning it clockwise). I thought I was getting movement but it turns out the nut was just deforming. I soaked it in wd40 and even tried to put some heat on it but was unable to break the thing loose.

What’s the next step? Should I get an impact wrench and socket or would it be better to just try and break the nut with a chisel? I worry about damaging something else so I thought I’d ask you guys for some advise.

Thanks.
