When i try ro run my compactor, it just hums. Twice, I have taken the outside shell off the compactor, taped the switches, and the compactor ran fine. I put the shell back on and for several weeks it continued to run fine. Then all the sudden it just hums again. I have confirmed there is nothing stuck around he ram.

I have the same issue. Did you get a response to this?
I have not seen a solution yet
Make sure the start switch (#309 on the diagram) is working properly and the foot pedal is not broken.

Thanks for your reply!! The foot peddle and swith appear to be working fine; ie when I push the peddle or the #309 switch it causes the motor to hum. I can take the unit apart, manually turn the drive gear to move the Ram, and the unit will work to 5-10 times and then go back to humming. This does not appear to be the #309 switch.
Thoughts??
NEW MOTOR FIXED the problem, has been working now for almost a week
the new motor came with a new gear, instructions said the new high torque motor will break the old gear,so make sure you order the kit
mine cost $165 with shipping,I hated to spend money since it was Ge that put a defective chineese made motor in it,but got tired of having a $700 trash can
I greased the power screws and power nuts…ran 3-5 times and then stops again with a humming noise when I press the peddle switch. I can turn the motor gear til the ram is off the top switches…runs 3-5 times and then hums again.
I hate to buy a motor and find that is not the problem.
HELP!!

REPLACING THE MOTOR FIXED MINE,IT’S BEEN WORKING FINE FOR MONTHS
GE USED A DEFECTIVE MOTOR FROM CHINA,AND REFUSES TO ADMIT IT,BUT I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING MADE BY GE,EVER,I MEAN EVER
JUST TRY GETTING HELP FROM THEM,YOU MIGHT AS WELL STICK YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND.
NEW MOTOR CAME WITH A REPLACEMENT GEAR,IT SAID MAKE SURE YOU REPLACE OLD GEAR,CAUSE NEW HIGHER TORGUE MOTOR WILL DESTROY OLD GEAR.IT COST ME ABOUT $160 WITH SHIPPING
Thanks RobMay1
I will likely follow your advice unless I hear from any other experts on others things to check.
Hi Rob,
The same thing happened to me and a tech said I needed to replace the motor and wanted to charge me $400+. Where did you get yours. Here at APP it costs $198 + shipping. Does it include the instructions on how to replace it and was it hard? Thank you so much.
Gene,
The model # is 2CGS150LSS-00.
Do you have any info on a replacement switch?

The model # is ZCGS150LSS-00.
Didn’t realize a problem until now. I’m thinking this has been about 4 to six wash cycles.
Help
Hi.
Could you please explain more detailed what’s going on.
Does the drain works?
Is there any error codes displayed?
Thank you.
Simon.
Fired up the D Washer and its noisy, has a whining sound. Not sure if its the motor or pump? Any ideas?
Unit just hums & does not compress. Ensure mechanism not jammed by turning gear by hand. Check continuity of centrifugal switch (should be closed with unit off) which is a white plastic sitting at top of motor. If relay is open, simple electrical relay cleaner should restore the contacts.

I know little about your problems, however, I recommend you to refer to http://www.manualbirds.com/, which is a free site for thousands of PDF manuals, guides and handbooks, hope Manualbirds can do you a great favor!
Greetings all, this issue, which can be fixed with a new motor, is actually a problem with the motor end switch. This switch is used in the start winding circuit for both up and down. If the switch fails in the open position then the motor will not start and it will hum as only the run winding is energized. Removing the top end bell of the motor will expose the end switch and you will see it is burned or black. It can be removed and cleaned, check that it measures closed, about .3 ohms, before you reinstall it. Re check the connection again before testing the compactor. I have not been able to find a replacement end switch as of this posting as I feel that the cost of a motor is a bit much for a bad end switch I will keep looking

I agree with all the above comments.
