GE Washer not spinning

We bought this washer used off of Craigslist about 8 months ago.
The washer won’t spin with a load of wet clothes. This began as an occasional problem but became constant of recent.

The motor is clutchless. I removed the agitator and verified the coupler was OK. I then removed the belt and pulley to examine the transmission spring which was not damaged.

When putting the belt back on, the transmission was rotating clockwise when I was guiding the belt back on. I could hear pieces falling around inside when it was rotating.

I suppose this indicates the transmission is broken inside which means it isn’t worth fixing due to parts cost and explains why the spin problem exists.

Any ideas that say this isn’t the transmission ( though I don’t see how it isn’t ) would be very appreciated. I’m obviously not wanting to buy a new washer after getting Clist ripped off but I’m at a loss as to any other feasible option.

Thanks
