Help with kenmore window ac/heater, ac does not work

Hello,
I have a kenmore window ac/heater unit 580.75124500. the heater and fan work fine. When I turn on the ac the fan blows fine, there is no noise, but the ac cool does not kick in. Can you help me? I cleaned off the outside of the unit. No cool.

Unplug unit. Remove the thermostat and jump out the two leads going to it.
Restore power and turn to A/C and see if the unit starts. If so replace the thermostat.
Also, with power off look at the capacitor (metal can) to see if it is swollen, has a leak, or wires corroded. :slight_smile:
