My drum belt broke and I have a new one to put on but I can’t figure out how to get it around the drum and don’t see any gooves or anything for it to ride on. What am I doing wrong. I have the top and the access panel off and I see the 2 pulleys but I don’t see how it fits on the drum? Can anyone help me with this.
The belt drives the tumbler by friction. There’s no need for a groove in the tumbler. The belt threads around the tumbler; over the top of the idler pulley; and underneath the motor pulley.
So it just lays on the drum? But how do you get it around the drum? There are all kinds of stuff keeping from it.
GE didn’t make this one easy: You need to open up the top (two screws in the top corners of the door opening), and let the front panel slightly rest forward (or you can remove the front panel, if you wish). Then you work the belt into a positionwhere you can then thread it as previously described, through the rear panel opening. (This isn’t beyond your ability; but you’ll certainly get a feeling for why the pros get the big bucks). DO: Make sure you unplug the dryer before doing this work.
Hi thank you I finally figured it out and is was difficult at least for me. But I got it on there and back together with one washer and two screws left over. It is working fine now. My drum had to be lifted up to get the belt under it. Thanks for your help.
Glad you got it. You saved about a hundred dollars on a service call. Well done!
