How can I remove the front cover assembly (ice/water dispenser control panel, part #AP3126700) on my KitchenAid refrigerator? It is a snap fit (no fasteners) but I can’t find how to remove it without bending it so far that I think it will crack.
I am trying to solve the same issue with my ice dispenser cover. The ice dispenser arm is broken, but I can’t replace it without removing the cover! I can’t figure out how the cover is attached!
I am replying to my own request! I found that you can gently pry out the bottom of the facade, using a putty knife, and then slide the facade up slightly (1/8 inch or so), and it comes right off!
I have the side by side Frigidaire, with a stainless steel surface. It took time, but I finally figured out that if I pulled firmly on the overflow tray, it slid out. There were three screws under that that held the bottom of the face plate in. The middle screw was so rusted I had to drill the head off of it to allow the face plate to move out a little. I then slid the face plate up and out.
Unfreezing the water line was fairly simple. I disconnected the compression fitting at the bottom of the door, under the hinge. To disconnect, press the blue ring away from the hose, into the fitting, and then gently slide the hose out. I then started by pouring salt water into the top of the tube. This didn’t work. My wife recommended trying rubbing alcohol, so I gave it a try. I used a veterinarian syringe for administering oral meds to animals. You can probably use a small basting tube.
The first dose of alcohol ran right through the ice clog, and I followed up with the salt water mixture. Fifteen minutes later, I was admiring the water flow from the dispenser.
I can’t seem to get my front cover off of my Kenmore ice dispenser assembly to replace my overlay. I’ve tried put screwdrivers in the two slots at the bottom and twisting. I’ve even got the top corners loose but there seems to be something holding it together at the top middle that I can’t release. Any ideas? Could it be two sided sticky tape? I hear a crinkling type noise when I try to pull there, but I don’t want to pull too hard and break it.

I would look for any seams in the face plate plastic, and determine how many pieces the face plate is comprised of. Then look to see how the are layered. You want the outer layer, since this is probably the one that needs to come out. If it is the drain drawer, then you can probably just pull it out.
I doubt if the face plate would be held on by double sided tape. Mine had three screws, and once removed, the face plate slid up about a quarter inch, and popped right out.
After finally pulling really hard to get the cover off, we realized we didn’t need to take it off at all. The overlay for the ice and water buttons was just a sticker. We had to peel off the old one and put the new one on. Thanks anyway.
