my GE fridge wont cool and wont defrost. Removed back panel in freezer area and coils are iced over how do i test to determine which part i need, dont know if its the heater or thermostat. Thank you

You can manually turn the defrost timer until it clicks. This will put the unit into the defrost mode. If you have the rear wall of the freezer removed you should be able to see the heater and defrost thermostat. If the heater starts glowing and you see the frost melting, the timer is bad. If nothing happens, then you’ll need a meter to either Ohm out the defrost stat and the heater, or check to see if you have voltage going to them.
