How to test motor vs. lid switch

In our last load of laundry, we found that the machine had stopped and there was an electrical smell in the air. No burning rubber, no metallic (clutch) smells. Now the washer will fill with water, but then nothing happens. No matter what I turn the dial to, it will not respond. It won’t even drain the water that’s in it.

I cannot find a service manual for this model. How can I test if we overloaded it and the motor has blown (a definite possibility considering the load was all heavy towels)…or if the lid switch has gone bad (seems very likely considering the symptoms).

When I look at the wiring diagram under the "lid switch connector and operation", it specifically says "link continuity cannot be measured with ohmmeter". So how do I test it?

Well this is a mystery to me because a switch is just a switch, and continuity is the way to test a switch so why you cannot test a switch for continuity is beyond my understanding (although to be fair much of what Maytag does is beyond everyone’s understanding).

Anyway, look for a fuse in the line, test the switch anyway or by pass it and see what happens. YOur motor has an overload protection so it should re-set itself if it were the problem.
