I have failure codes, now what?

Hi - this is a 6-year old Maytag Gas Dryer. Problem was that it was taking longer to dry, and things weren’t dry when the sensors said they were. So I replaced the sensors and thermistor, and cleaned all the lint out of the trap assembly and fan as best I could. (also cleaned the hi-limit thermostat since it was next to the thermistor).

Didn’t help really. Takes somewhat longer to dry things, although they’re more dry (but not entirely dry) when the sensor says they are.

So I bought the service manual, ran all the diagnostics on the control panel (they passed) and checked the history of failure codes. Two codes repeated several times:

Selected dryer temperature not reached - code 21
Heater on and drum temp not increasing - code 14

Unfortunately, the service manual doesn’t say what to replace. Does anyone know what parts this implies are broken?

THANKS!

Hi.

Disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer and run one regular load. See if that makes any difference.

Simon.

Sorry - should have mentioned - the vent hose is fixed, not very long, and I cleaned it out when i cleaned the dryer - good strong airflow at the outlet as well. I think it’s a part in the dryer - don’t know which one though.

Hi Jeff,

Did you try the timed dry?

Remove the vent hose from the dryer. Run a load and measure the temperature at the exhaust pipe using a meet thermometer.

Post the results.

Gene.
P.S. Would the flame ignite every time when the igniter glows? How long the flame stays on?

Wife wouldn’t wait. repair guy replaced igniter solenoid - said this is common for this unit. Said exhaust was good.

thanks anyway 8-}
