Help Please. My refrigerator has been making a chattering to a buzzing sound. I am an commercial electrician for 20yrs, I am very capable of fixing almost anything just need advice. the loud buzzing sound start about a month ago, i paid it no attention I first thought it was the ice maker valve chattering. then I realized it was doing it when the ice maker shouldn’t be filling up. we use very little ice. I rolled out fridge removed back cover waited until it started to make the buzzing and when it did found it to be the compressor doing it when it was trying to start, the sound last about 15sec the stops and the compressor isn’t running then about a minute later is make a quick buzz that last a 1/2sec and the compressor begins to start and works very quiet. I noticed the compressor has a black box on the side of it that is a capacitor. could this be the problem? or is my compressor ready to quit or is it something I might be missing? please help.
