Tomorrow I will be accessing the upper and lower Centerpost Bearings p/n 3347047. If anyone has done this lately and can offer up bearing removal tips, sound off. I’m guessing I’ll have to press the old bearings out? Removing the centerpost itself is no problem.
Just why are you replacing the bearings on this direct drive washer??
I’m kind of curious about that too.
In the last twenty years of fixing these, I’ve only put in one set of bearings. Usually they are good for the life of the machine. 15 to 20 years.
Well the machine is 14+ years old, and I’ve got two grooves being cut on the outside of the basket drive tube (388952) at the approx location of the upper bearing. The machine started making a serious metallic rubbing sound for a few seconds after the wash drum stopped. It has the same sound you would get if you spun the basket on the basket drive block before the spanner nut is installed. Inspected the brake shoes and clutch and they seem to be in order. ThatGuy; the last time you replaced these bearings, did you have to press them out, or were they plug-n-play?
Thx
Here are a few shots showing the grooves being cut in my spin tube at the upper centerpost bearing location. It’s the only place I can find that indicates any metal-on-metal grinding sound for a few seconds after the wash drum stops.
UPDATE:
After taking some measurements with the drive tube removed, the grooves line up with the inner lip of the top seal.
QUESTION:
Should I have to force the basket drive block onto the top of the drive tube? I know I have to align the 2 tabs at the top with the slots in the block but I have to use a lead mallet to get the block down and seated.
Those grooves are normal wear rings from the seals, not from bearings. I would look for other sources of the noise.
