Ice maker 1/2 works

I have a Maytag side by side (Model PSD264LGRW) that has started to not dispense cubed ice, all other functions work, including crushed ice. When the selection button is activated and indicator light is lit and dispenser pad is pressed (The light comes on in the cup area and the dispenser door opens) It does not make any effort or noise from that point. I have replaced the key pad to no avail any suggestions.

Here’s what I’d try first. Remove the crusher bin assembly. Note the metal arm on the bottom of this assembly. Now look inside the unit at the hole where this arm inserts when the crusher bin is installed. Inside this square hole is a square plastic piece which is attached to a solenoid. Reach in and insure that this piece is in the down position. If it has stuck in the up position you should be able to simply pull down on it with your finger. If it was in the up position and it pops down, reinstall the crusher bin assembly and try the cube dispense. If it works, you just solved your problem without any more expense. Hope this helps! =]

This is a different type, there no holes, pins or switches. With ice bin removed there is a rectangular shaped motor housing with two lights mounted to the left and right of the small (3/4" wide by 3" long) rectangular drive bracket that protrudes out of the housing it attaches to the end of the motor shaft. On the back of the ice bin is a recessed circular shape with two ears that protrude, one has a reinforcement pin. This ice maker will dispense cubed ice once in a while now. I was wondering if I have a bad connection or a broken wire. I do not have a wiring diagram for this. Any ideas or suggestions are welcomed. Thx ritewaykay;)

First, I’m sorry that I didn’t check the wiring diagram for your model first, but it appears that this design utilizes a bi-directional auger motor. In this case, with a intermittent issue, the problem is one of two parts. The auger motor, part # [AP4242689](http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/whirlpool-motor-auger-kit-item-number-ap4008672.aspx"]AP4008672[/URL], or the auger motor capacitor. As long as there are no poor electrical connections, I’d suspect the motor first. The capacitors do fail, but not nearly as often as the motors. The capacitor part number is [URL="http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/whirlpool-use-wpl-w10116760-item-number-ap4242689.aspx). Moisture condensation is the reason for most of these motor failures.(Many of the motors are replaced without trying to warm them up and the part is actually still good). Also, before you replace it, heat it with a hair dryer and see if this frees up its operation. If it does, motor replacement is not necessary, but adjustment of the freezer temperature is required to prevent recurrence of the issue. If the freezer is running below zero, It needs to be adjusted to a warmer temperature to prevent condensation and frost formation from occurring. I sure hope this helps and of course if I can help anymore, please feel free to ask! =]

Thank You, Thank You Jerry L. Dunnahoo. I was finally able to try your blow dryer trick. It "WORKED", was easy to do. Thanks again. "Ritewaykay"

I’m happy that I was able to help!
