ice maker ejection fingers build up with ice

I have a Maytag side by side refer. The ice maker makes ice and ejects the ice into the bin. After about 3 or 4 cycles the fingers build up with ice to the point that the fingers jam. I reach in clean the ice off the fingers and the cycle repeats 3 or 4 times. I have read posts but they have never addressed the ice build up on the fingers and stopping ice making. Can anyone tell me what is happening.
