Ice maker stopped working

I need help with my Ice maker. The metal rod that moves up to stop making ice and down to make ice broke from the right side. The little plastic holder broke causing the ice maker shut off system to fail. Actually it stayed in the make ice position until one day it just stopped working. I unplugged and took it out of the freezer compartment and drilled a hole in the right side that was broken and stuck the rod in it so that it could move up and down. I reinstalled the ice maker plugged it in but nothing happened. I is still dead. So I ordered a new ice maker from the Amana company thinking the old one just burned up because it was in the "make Ice" mode for so long. I took the old one out, detached the electrical system, plugged the electrical system into the new one, installed the new one but nothing is working. I checked the water line that feeds the ice maker and the tube was dry. I followed it down in the back of the refrigerator to the point where the tube goes into what looks like a blue colored solenoid. I am assuming that part of the electrical system of the ice maker is to call for water to make the ice. Perhaps the solenoid is bad. I guess I should have written in this forum before I jumped the gun and spent the $180.00 on a non returnable new ice maker. If you can help me with this problem it would be great. I hate to think of having to call a repair man out and have him tell me that it wasn’t the ice maker that was bad but some simple part that is easily changed out. Any information would be great. Thanks

On the ptc, i have ohmed the switch out and reads nothing, i have 110 volts going to the wax motor.could this be a bad switch.

The door switch and the speed/motor control board are the traditional problems on this model.
