I have a Jenn Aire side by side that started making a noise when it began to try to cylce several days ago. Sounded like a solenoid chattering ( I first thought it might be the water solenoid going as it tried to fill the ice cube tray). After several days, we finally began to loose cooling in both the Freezer and the fridge. Repair guy cant make it out for several days. I have taken everything out and shut it down. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
If it is the compressor making the noise, I would replace the compressor start device AP4079373
If the control board behind the control panel, order a new board AP4366538
I had a local repair shop diagnose the problem as a bad compressor. Looking online, everyone is calling for only a professional to do this job. The repairman quoted $250 for compressor, 300 for install and another 100 for other parts plus tax. At 700, with replacement cost of 2400 I am nervous to invest 700 in a 7 year old unit that has all the whistles and bells that can still go out. Is this a job that should be left to the pro’s? Would a repairman off of craigs list typically be able to handle repalcing a compressor and save me some $? I can easily deliver this to someones shop for ease of replacement, will that offer save me any $?
Any help would be a appreciated, I have to make my decision quickly since we have firt communion party this weekend. Thanks
Saving money on this job is foolish, I would go with the best service shop you can find, but even then, there is a risk the repair could go bad, just check the warranty a shop would give. Personally, I no longer replace compressors as the risk/reward ratio too high, and the fridg is just not worth that much money unless it would require extensive cabinet work to replace it.
Thanks!!! That was the way I was leaning but always good to have more information when making decisions. Off to the big box store for another disposable fridge
