Dryer’s timer dial DOES MOVE on timed cycle…but will not shut off (it will shut off if I manually move the dial to "off"). I have not even tried it in "Automatic", as we never use this mode. This issue seems to have happened at roughly the same time that the heat in the dryer quit working (a couple days ago).
I was going to order a new timer…but thought I would run it by some folks more knowledgeable than me before I do.

Can you clairify a few points.
You say the timer moves but to shut off the machine you have to manually move timer to off. What happens if you do not move it, does it go to off and stop, but not shut off the machine? Does it go past off?
When the heat failed what did you do to fix that?
I think the timer is likely the problem and replacing it might solve your problem, but if you want more info let us know the answers to the above, and also operate the machine on auto just to see what happens and let us know those results also.

Ok…after a little further investigation:
The timer dial does move toward off, as I said initially, but seems to stop moving just ahead of the off position. It will only shut off when I manually move it forward to off…or open the door.
In the auto mode, the dial does not move and it does not shut off until I manually move it to the off position or open the door. I put a damp towel in tonite and it ran till the towel was dry…but dial never moved and it did not shut off.
I still have not addressed the heat issue. Still no heat.
Ok, well it sounds like the timer so if you want to try and fix this I suggest you go ahead and replace it and see if that fixes the timer movement problem . You should check continuity on the thermal fuses and thermostats to see if that is the source of the heat problem, and also ohm out and check the heating element. If you find the problem in them, replace the faulty part at the same time as the heater. If they all check out, see if the new timer will fix both problems.

Heating element was bad…so ordered a timer and heating element. Installed the timer tonite. No change: advances toward the "off" when in timer mode, but stops advancing just ahead of it…and just keeps on running. Any ideas?
Heating element will be here in couple days.
Let’s see what happens when you put in the new heating element. Try it after that and see how the machine performs. Replacing the element will reduce the number of things contributing to the problem.

Well, glad the new heating element fixed it, and that you were able to return the timer.
Here’s what I think was going on.
In auto mode the timer will not advance when the heating element is on. This is how it attempts to set the drying time to match the time needed to dry the clothes.
The thermostat cycles the heating element on and off, and off and turns it off when it reaches a certain temperature, at which time the timer will then advance until the heating element comes back on. Since the element was not heating (the machine did not know this, it thought it was heating), the dryer never reached a temperature for the thermostat to cycle off the heating element, so the thermostat never turned the element off so the timer never advanced.
In timed mode the timer moves independent of the hearing cycle. It sounds like the timer reached the cool down section and then stopped because of the problem with the heating element.

Your model comes up as a gas dryer, not an electric one.
If it is a gas dryer please start a new post and describe your problem in some detail and I am sure someone can help you.
If it is an electric model please check the model number and also re post in a new posting.

We have problem with the machine during the spin cycle. It seems that the balancing ring keeps rubbing against retainer ring, I guess that what probably is, and wears the both away.
[SIZE=2]My 5 burner cooktop serial #96090122 is converted to propane. All burner ignitors work but the right front XLO will not light. The burner cap is set properly, the jet orifice is clean and the knobs are not cracked. I do not hear or smell propane on the burner but the ignitor is working. I purchased a new potentiometer BSH189819 from Appliance Parts Pros.com and installed it. The burner worked fine for 4 or 5 tries. Then while cooking, I went to adjust the flame ever so slightly and it went out completely and I have not been able to re-light it since but the ignitor still works. What would be my next step?
