The washer will go through the wash cycle okay but it will not drain or spin. There is a very slight burning smell (almost like burning rubber). I think the timer works…because it will proceed until the drain/spin cycle but when it get to the drain cycle, it acts like the motor is overloaded and it will not spin. Consequently, after 5-10 seconds of trying, the motor kicks off and the washer is completely non-functioning. After a cool down period of 5-10 minute, the motor will reset and will agitate (wash) but the tub needs a little manual help to get it started. As soon as the cycle reaches the drain/spin cycle, it just gives up and the motor kicks off entirely. The water will not drain. Also, when the washer is in the wash agitation cycle there is now a slight clunking noise as if the motor/tub is not staying engaged.
Possibilities from reading other links don’t seem to compute…
Drain/Water Pump??: Would this also cause the slight clunking I hear while in agitation mode and the need to get the tub started with some manual help?
Safety Switch on Lid?: Wouldn’t it still drain the water - just not spin?
Motor?: The motor seems to work strongly in agitation mode once it is egaged.
Timer?: Timer seems to be asking the washer to do it’s thing -It acts like the motor is overloaded.
Tranmission?: I am afraid this is the culprit…but can this be repaired/reconditioned instead of buying a new one. Are there certain pieces in the guts of the transmission that are the likely culprit? If I must get a new transmission, I may as well just punt and buy a new machine.
Thank you very much for the help…I just don’t want to spend money on spare parts and several hours trying fix it if it is a lost cause.
