Kenmore Chest Freezer Thermostat Probe Stuck

I am trying to replace a chest freezer thermostat and the probe is stuck in the tube. How do I get it out correctly without ruining anything? It is a 1986 Kenmore model 198.8151525 if that helps any. I have pulled pretty hard on it and it just doesn’t want to come loose and slide out. I also took a piece of wire and have pushed it up the tube along side the probe trying to see if it were plugged or frozen and it went in a long way with no issues.

te,

I’ve encountered exactly the same problem. If that monster weren’t so big and worked so well, I’d replace it.

I was not able to probe the tube as far as you did - I used some piano wire and it stopped at about 4 inches deep no matter how I worked it.

There has to be a way to remove that capillary, how else would they have repaired it back in the day? If I find out how it is removed, I certainly will post it here.

Good luck,
Rich

Anyone ever find out the answer to this? I’m having the same issue.

In order to provide most accurate advice we need the complete model number of the refrigerator. It’s also better to register on the forum.

Thank you for your reply. It was very helpful.
