Hello to all,
New to the forum have a question about my Kenmore Dryer. I bought this set used about 2 months ago. The dryer will work sometimes other times the clothes arent all the way dry. It doesnt always get hot. I have been told that it is prob. the cut off thermostat, Is this true if so how much does that part usually run and how hard is it to be replaced? I dont have and ohm mtr to do all the testing I am trying to borrow one from someone cause I see that you all recommend that in order to find the correct part. Please help since I cant afford to buy a new dryer nor to have someone come and fix it unless someone is in Kingsland GA and is willing to do a favor…(or just lend a hand)
Thanks
Trey
Does anyone have any Idea or steps I can take to find out what is wrong? Please let me know thanks in advance.
strong air flow to the outside of the house?
i feel you may have a timer problem. thermostats do not behave this way.the timer can complete cycle +still have contact problem
How long has it been since you replaced your 30 amp breaker?
I have come across this type of thing before.
Most of the time it is your breaker.
I am in an apartment so I am unaware of when the last time this was replaced. Is there a way to test it to see if it is good, bad, or needs replacement?
How would I check the timer?
Get the maintenence super to check it out. I know people that bought new dryers and had the same problem.
The timer can be checked easy. Just remove the fat red wire from terminal RH connect a meter lead to that terminal.Put the other lead on any other timer terminal, move the timer knob around. As it makes and breaks when you hear clicks if you don’t get any reading then the contact is burned. But burned contacts are NOT intermittant.Thats why I say the breaker needs attention. They get hot on the heat side of the breaker and open. The motor runs on 120 volts so it is not affected.
dear sublime master .in my 35 years of servicing appliances .i have seenn numerous dryer timers misbehave in the manor i suggested especially g.e. dryer timers . i have turned on dryer to minute cycle ,opened door ,held the door switch in started timer +slowly turn, observing heater ,ever so slightly jiggle timer knob to see heater come on +then go off.that said ,customer never said breaker tripped+then reset . remember according to customer sometimes the dryer works perfectly ,explain your breaker theory now
I have found numerous dryers with every part on them working wonderfully.
The timer has even been replaced on a lot of these. I have seen these dsame customers buy new dryers only to have the problem be electrical. It very well could be the timer. But most of the time intermittant probs are not related to the timer. And since the timer is not refundable youare screwed if you plop down good money on one and that ain’t the problem.
Take the dryer to another location and try it if you have checked out every other posibility. That is all I am saying. Your dryer drys perfectly AT TIMES and then other times it takes a dump. That is an electrical problem.
replace breaker +find out… . remember we are sitting behind a monitor not standing in front of the machine, plus we can only rely on what the member says, and that is not always accurate,so we have to dig deeper, till if we are lucky ,and most times we do alright. love +kisses to y"all , " deep sigh of relief "
So thats it. I need some help guys. You both have more knowledge about this stuff than I do. Please let me know what else I can try. I need to fix this asap. Pleas help. Thanks.
Im certain with the location that my water is leaking from that the above listed items are the correct fix for my machine. My questions are, is the cost of the parts and spanner wrench worth repairing my paticular machine…and if so what are the appropriate steps for making this repair…thanks inadvance for your input
This is a "dependable care" washer, the best that Maytag made, well worth fixing.
Go to %url% and look at the procedure under dependable care Maytag washers. To fix this, you should replace the steel bearing sleeve attached to the transmission shaft. You will need a punch rod to pound it off the transmission housing.
Good luck, a rather extensive repair taking 2 hours. Only tool needed is the special spanner wrench.
I would like to give you a heads up on a few things, like the threads are opposite, so when you knock off the tub mounting screw, with the spanner wrench, turn it clockwise. The same with stem kit. All backwards threads. Also be careful, with the advised punch rod, that you don’t damage the spline’s on the transmission. One other little thing, when you put the boot seal on, get some dishwashing liquid, and rub some on the bottom of the seal, that goes toward the tub, and turn it clockwise, and be sure it sits flush against the tub. These are some useful pointers on repairing this product. I have one too. Mine is 22 years old. The best ever made, I must agree. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com
