Kenmore Elite dishwasher not cleaning top rack

My dishwasher is not cleaning the top rack. I disassembled everything and cleaned out all of the white residue buildup. There wasn’t that much sediment or any blockage that I could see. I started the dishwasher with a cup on the top rack facing up to see if it would fill and no luck. The bottom of the dishwasher fills up with water and the dishes have been cleaned. Anybody have other ideas I should try before I call the repair man? Seems to me if the motor was not working then the bottom rack wouldn’t get cleaned either. Thanks so much for any help

Diane

Did you figure out what was wrong with your dishwasher? I have the same problem - we have cleaned out under the screen but still dirty dishes on the top rack. It also does not fill a glass when put on the top rack.

Sorry we missed the previous question posted by Diane.

What is the complete model number of the dishwasher?

Gene.

Sorry, Gene, I am away from the dishwasher until Sunday. I’ll post the complete model number then. We have cleaned out the screen, chopper assembly and valve but still have the problem. Last time I ran it there was still some detergent in the dispenser at the end of the cycle also.

You also can find some useful information in one of our previous threads: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/dishwasher-repair/2903-whirlpool-dishwasher.html

We did everything already in the link you posted - cleaning out the chopper, etc. but the top rack dishes still didn’t get clean and the detergent dispenser was not completely emptied at the end of the cycle. Any ideas?

Open the door during the wash cycle and check the water level inside.

Gene.

The model number is 665.13769K602. I am running it now and during the wash cycle the water level is about mid-way up the heating element in the bottom. I also have opened the door six times during the cycle and the upper arm does not seem to be moving (it’s always in the same spot when I open the door). I do see water dripping from the end hole of the top arm though.

Wash cycle is complete. The detergent dispenser is open with a small amount of detergent still left (not usual until recently). Everything on the bottom rack is clean, everything on the top as food particles on it.

By mid-way up the heating element, I mean that the heating element is partially covered in water.

Check how the chopper engages the pump impeller.

You also may have a clog going to the upper spray arm.

If this is not the issue then very likely the pump itself is the culprit.

Gene.

Gene,

What do you mean by "Check how the chopper engages the pump impeller"? Also, did the amount of water in the bottom of the dishwasher sound right?

You should feel some tension when you turn the chopper manually. I believe CCW.

It sounds good but you can dump an extra gallon to see how if it works.
