Dryer started getting VERY hot regardless of heat setting. Sometimes to the point that you can not touch the clothes. Here is what I have tried so far. Took the hose off and cleaned inside the dryer and replaced the outside vent and tube leading to the vent, removed the front cover and vacuumed everything, removed the lint screen and vacuumed inside. No change. Then replaced the Thermistor. No change.
What should I check / replace next ? Note…it does not happen every time you use the dryer but about every 2nd time you turn it on.
How long is your vent? More than 10 ft? Try running without the hose at all to make sure its not a restriction. If still doing it the element could have broke and shortest itself to the heater box and so bypassing the thermostats. If you are able to use a Multimeter its a very easy test simply put on lead on the terminal of the heating element. And the other lead on the case around the element. You should not get continuity as in no "beep"
Hose is 3ft or so.
Checked the continuity as suggested. On the top lead I get NO beep but on the bottom lead I get a beep. I could not see any obvious sign that the element was touching but I guess it could be broke or touching in the back. Should I replace the element ?
*UPDATE I took out the heating element and inspected it , I saw no obvious breaks or wires touching anything.

I’m having the same problem with my GE Eterna Series Dryer, EED3000B0WW.
I have cleaned the dryer vent, I tested the Bias thermostat by heating it up with a lighter… has continuity when it’s cold… and loses continuity after a few seconds with the flame on it. Has continuity again after cooling for a few seconds… so I think it is ok. Although it does seem to take a lot of heat to get it to trip (lose continuity). Also, just wasted 30 bucks by replacing the Cycling Thermostat - 4 Wire (L210-30F).
No luck yet.
It gets TOO Hot on all the temperature settings… will usually cool off if we use the NO HEAT setting, but sometimes it will still get hot…(wife says)… if we go roll the switch around and set it back to NO HEAT it will cool off.
BTW, first noticed a problem when I picked up my lunch bag/cooler off the top of the dryer, there was blue liquid all over the top of the dryer… it was a melted blue crayon… very hot… i disallowed my wife from using it for a while until I could find a safe solution.
We’ve been using it on all different temperature settings, and check it a few minutes later, and change it to NO HEAT to keep our clothes from getting scorching hot, then switching it back to a heat setting to warm them up again after they cool off, until they’re done.
Could it be the rotary temperature switch? How can I test the switch?

Yes replace that element. It my not be touching at that moment or it may not be obvious. But you should NEVER get continuity to ground unless its broke.

No those switchs don’t really go bad often. Go through the same process as the other guy. Remove vent to make sure its not that. Check the element for continuity to the heater box. And then I would replace the thermistor. Does it do it on timed dry also?
Ok. I have ordered a new heating element. Hoping this fixes the problem. Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks for your quick response! Yes, it does it on a timed dry too. Will do with the element to box continuity… Where do I find a thermistor? Is it called something else? I can’t find it in the parts diagram.

I have replaced the heating element and have the same results. Even on AIR DRY the element glows bright red . Any suggestions ??
I am stuck and need advice…I have also installed a new thermal cut out kit and set the dryer to AIR DRY…turn on and the element immediately turns bright red. I am about to the point of buying a new dryer. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
