Kenmore Refrigerator Blowing Warm Air

I had my refrigerator in storage for a few months this summer, and when I hooked it back up a few weeks ago the freezer was blowing warm air and neither the fridge nor freezer were cooling. I replaced the cold control hoping that would fix my problem, but no such luck.

I’ve been digging around, and chatting with various people, but I keep getting different recommendations on what the problem might be. Everything from defrost thermostat, to relay/starter kit, to freon, to compressor.

Here is what I know, the refrigerator runs fine and blows air, but it is warm. The compressor runs, but is hot to the touch. I do not have a lot of expertise, or testing equipment. Does anyone have any suggestions based on my model of what this might be that I can repair myself?

Thanks in advance.
John

Model Kenmore 253.69802892, top mount freezer, bottom fridge.

Since the compressor runs and there is no cooling at all it is a sealed system problem.
This will be an expensive repair as you need a pro and often it makes more sense to put those dollars towards a new unit.
Check your warranty some systems have a longer sealed system warranty.

One thing to note is that you said it was in storage so I am assuming that you moved it. If it was moved on it’s side it should have been left sitting upright for 24 hours before plugging in.

Everything from defrost thermostat,
the freezer would be cool just not cold enough

to relay/starter kit,
the compressor would not run or keep cycling on/off every couple minutes

to freon, to compressor.
Could be either of the above both will be expensive.
