I have a Kenmore 90 series washer, don"t have the model number at this time. It fills with water, agitates sometimes but then does not spin and drain. This is what I have done so far. Disassembled unit to check the pump and hoses for clogs. Pump and hoses are clear. Removed motor from transmission to check for a damaged coupler. It is in perfect shape. Inspected the lid switch and "bypassed" the switch to determine if the switch is bad. It is fine. Is there any way the motor itself is dead? Otherwise I’m at a loss here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Nate
When set for drain/spin, what is the motor doing? Humming? Running? All quiet? Is timer advancing?

Hi Eric. Thanks for the help. The motor makes a humming type noise for about 10-15 seconds then ends with a definately "click" noise, then nothing. If I rotate the time dial to the next spin setting it sometimes does the same noise/click and sometimes not. So random.
Pull the pump from the motor (leave hoses connected) and try spin mode again. If motor still just hums (no shaft rotation), pull motor and set it on the floor and try it again with your foot on the motor in case it starts. If it still just hums, spin the motor shaft while it is humming to see if it will start. If it does start on it’s own, try rotating the gearcase input shaft by hand. CCW for agitation, CW for spin. What is the model number of the washer?

Thanks again for the help, Eric. After some more tinkering, the wife made the call for a new washer. This Kenmore was an old hand-me-down that we had for 9 years. I was always fixing or trying to fix it. New LG shows up tomorrow!
Ok, good luck with the new washer. The Kenmore 90 series was one of the best top load washer out there. You might want to try and sell it as there are many people looking for them. New washers have to meet government restrictions on energy usage. Low water levels, cold rinse only, and restricted hot/warm temps are the norm nowadays.
