Hi there.
I caught my refrigerator’s failure just in time this weekend - I noticed something in the freezer wasn’t rock solid and found that it stopped cooling on both the freezer and fridge sides.
- the control panel "seems" to work. There are LEDs, etc.
- the evaporator fan is running
- the condenser fan’s bearings seem to be ok - it spins.
- I can hear no "clicks" or anything by the condenser fan or compressor. I have not checked for 120V voltage on the line coming into to the fan.
The only control board is is in the top of the refrigerator compartment, behind the control panel with the LEDs. I removed it. Nothing appears to be out of whack - so, no physical signs of bad capacitors. There are two relays. I haven’t tested anything on the board yet.
My next steps:
- Check for voltage by the condenser fan.
- If no voltage (#1), check for 120V coming into the control board. If there’s 120V coming in , then…
- Check for 120V going OUT from the control board.
My guess is that a relay or capacitor has failed. This isn’t the same Kitchenaid/Whirlpool board I’ve seen posted about - it’s a different one, but it’s got caps and relays like that one, so I’m sure it may suffer the same fate.
Any other recommendations? I haven’t checked the condenser fan’s resistance yet.
Thanks,
KRis
