Leaking kitchenaid at overflow

My kitchenaid kuds230y2 is leaking at the overflow tubewhen then unit is washing/rinsing. The unit is not overfilling and i think what is happening is that I’m having a problem with the spray from the lower arm hitting the float. The spray arm is clean not obstrucinged inside. The bottom spray arm just lifts off effortlylessly, is this normal ? Also, it seems to me that when i put the spray arm back on its shaft it is not going down far enough down and maybe water is spraying out from under the spray arm and spraying directly on the float and leaking out. i tried a bit of pressure to push down the spray arm a bit more but didnt want to cause another problem if its not supposted to. May i should post a pic if that would help ? Thanks Mike

Hello Gene, My unit is leaking at the overflow tube, which has a float and a cut off switch connected to it. Page 7 part 12 on the diagram of the link you posted. I think these parts are ok. Dishwahers is leaking through the tube onto the floor below. I think the water into the dishwasher is controlled by the timer and this switch is only for real overflow protection. (I watched as it filled to determine this).

I have a feeling, but dont know for sure, that there is a problem with the lower spray arm. It lifts off very easily, and when I remove it there are parts that remain on the shaft that I dont see listed on the parts diagram. I’m wondering in the spray arm has ‘come apart’ and these pieces on the shaft are supposted to be inside the center of the spray arm ?? I tried to remove them from the shaft but they dont budge, so I’m not sure if maybe it’s a different design. Appreciate your thoughts. Mike

I hope these pictures help. When you open these pics they seem to start very large, but after a couple of seconds they seem to fit to the screen. The dishwasher does not seem to be overfilling, but is leaking at the overflow/overfill float.

Mike,

Possible the spray arm is coming up under the pressure and the water shooting out horizontally, causing a wave action in the water laying in the bottom of the tub, which in turn comes up over the top of the float stem making it leak. I would recommend to replace the spray arm.

Gene, as I was looking more closely at the parts I think I might have found the problem. There is a crack which could be leaking water and causing the problem, I reposted one of the photos and a line pointing to the crack. This crack is positioned so that if it sprayed water out, it would be pointing/spraying right at the overflow float, causing the drip below. You agree with this diagnosis ? Mike

Yes, very possible this is a cause of the problem.

yeah, I think that’s it. As an experiment I epoxied then siliconed the seam shut and tried the dishwasher, and there was no leak. I dont think my fix will last very long so I’ll order that part as hope it’s stopped for good. Mike

my dishwarsher ran all night on the rinse cycle,do I have a bad timer and if I do how do I get int the dish warsher to repair???help
