Bought a house from original owners one year ago, house and dishwasher were new in 2005. Original owners said they may have used dishwasher possibly 5 times total in four years, as the last time they used it it leaked out of the bottom. We are just now looking into it, pulled it out and tried it, water leaks around motor shaft onto floor. We’ve dug around, and have purchased a new impeller with seal kit. Is this likely the cause of leak? Hoses seem OK. Any ideas? Dishwasher essentially like new, just has the leak and would like to repair rather than replace.Motor seems fine. Thanks.
Thanks very much, "magician." We now have the motor pulled out and have purchased a new impeller seal kit. It’s a whirlpool DU840SWP…, about five years old. We’re having trouble separating the impeller from the motor assembly.
We’re about ready to chuck it and either buy a whole new pump/motor assembly, or a new dishwasher.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
If it’s still clean, it may be worth the cost of replacing both the motor and pump. The normal life expectancy for an appliance like this is between ten and fifteen years.
