Hi everyone,
I’m a novice, so please forgive me if I’m using the wrong terminology.
I replaced the heating element in my Kenmore under-counter dishwasher (model 665.17749k016) a few months ago. Last night I noticed a slight burning smell coming from the dishwasher and unplugged it immediately. Today I found the source of the smell; water had been leaking down the heating element onto the electric connection. The insulation around the heating element prong and the plastic clip that cinnects it to the wire had both melted. I remember now that when I replaced the heating element this connection didn’t feel totally "right" like the other side did.
So, here I am trying to fix this issue. I’m not sure if I need to purchase an entire wiring harness (~$100 and probably overkill) – if that’s even the correct part – or if I can just splice a new connector part onto the wire. I’m not even sure what this connector piece is called, nor what its part number is. Do I need to replace the heating element too because of the condition of the prong or can I just cover it with some kind of heatproof covering? Was the leak caused by a faulty heating element or a supporting part like a washer/shield/nut?
I would appreciate any help you’re willing to offer. Thanks!
