Lift Top To Replace Lid Switch

I am trying to replace my lid switch, but I cannot remove to top of my washer. I have removed the control panel and back and still cannot lift the lid. Is there a magic button somewhere I am missing?

I couldn’t find your model no. but if its like any other Whirlpool top loader you don’t have to take the back off.

The control panel usually had two screws, one on the left and one on the right. Depending on how old it is, they may be right in front, left and right control panel (older WP)

Or they may be in back, left and right corners of the control panel. (newer WP)

Once you find the screws take them out or loosen them (old or newer) and the control panel will swing up and back on its own hinges. (Which if you have removed the back, are no longer there. )

Under the control panel you will see the wiring connector for the lid switch and two spring clips (left and right). Release these clips and the whole case then swings forward and comes off in one big piece.

Then its fairly easy to change out the lid switch. Just don’t over tighten the two screws and make sure and tuck all the wiring up out of the way.

Good luck.
