Lint filter light

My Maytag dryer works on normal, low or medium, extra dry, or delicate cycle. If I try to use any other settings, the machine automatically goes back to normal setting and the check lint filter light starts blinking. I have cleaned the lint filter, but it doesn’t let me change any settings. What am I missing??? Thanks
