Loud noise and vibration end of spin cycle

Hi, our washing machine works fine at all the cycles except at the end of the spinning cycle. when it’s time to stop, it makes a big loud noise like a concrete hammer with vibration as well and takes many seconds to stop. I had a look at the clutch but didn’t see anything broken. The sound is as if it would be unbalanced but it’s not and the drum inside seems to move wich might be creating the bang.

i just want to make sure it is the right piece I change before ordering it. I don’t want to spend money for no reason.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a [basket drive assembly](http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-washer-drive-block-389140-ap2905773.html"spanner wrench ]drive block [/URL]issue or possibly the brakes. Remove the agitator to inspect the drive block. It should look like the photo. Try turning the basket by hand which you normally should not be able to do without a lot of force. If it turns easily and the drive block is ok then the brakes are bad. The drive block and tabs on the drive tube should turn in unison. If the drive block is shot, you will need a to get the nut off. If the tabs on the drive tube are shot, you will need to replace the [URL="http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-basket-drive-and-285792-ap3094539.html).
