There are many answers to be found on the internet about how to go about removing the agitator on Maytag Washing machines. None of them apply to my model A209. There is no visible bolt, nut clip or anything else. Removing the softener cup reveals a smooth surface with no removable cover, just a continuation of the surface of the agitator. There is a small hole (1/8 inch) in the bottom that goes down, not sidewise toward the shaft, but I can see nothing through it.
